“Consolation of the soul” is hailed as a classic of contemporary American natural literature. By an extraordinary narrative, the author Terri Williams interweaves the fate of females and the fate of birds and the Xionghe Sanctuary, revealing the devastating impact of humankind on the environment and how humans under natural disasters get comfort from nature. Examining this work from the perspective of ecocriticism, it is not difficult to find Williams’s anti-anthropocentrism and overall ecological awareness as well as ecological care for women and the human spirit. The book is not only a mourning for loved ones, but also a warning to human beings in ecological predicament.
