The term suburban has long been deeply embedded in the cultural life of Britain and the United States, yet academia has not formally defined it. From Terry and June to Desperate Housewives, the suburbs have become an integral part of popular culture. Rupa Huq constantly explores how the suburbs are portrayed in novels, movies, pop music and television, and depicts the changing trends between suburbs and the consumption and production of popular media. By studying the differences between Anglo-American suburban definitions and how their related features change in meaning and form, it will help to clarify the suburb’s own meanings in Anglo-American popular culture.
