辐籼6号(原名辐8329)为浙江省农业科学院原子能利用研究所采用辐射突变体辐774与IR26杂交选育,经加速世代,异地繁育和病区筛选鉴定,于1983年进行品系测产,1987~1988年通过省区试,1989年3月经省作物品种审定委员会审定通过,同时参加全国南方稻区区试。该品种经多年多点各级区试鉴定和大面积生产示范,表现高产稳产,抗稻瘟病,苗期耐寒,株型紧凑,耐肥抗倒,穗大粒多,有较好的丰产性,秧龄弹性较大,茬口适应性广,生育期介于二九丰和广陆矮4号之间,为早籼中迟熟新品种。
