随着DVD—ROM驱动器的普及,很多人希望将DVD影碟的内容转成VCD或者其它的视频格式(听起来似乎很费解,实际上很多人是这样做的,特别是在一些网络传输方面,DVD的数据量的确是太大了)。而DVD的多语言字幕和多声道,使其向其它格式转换的时候不能仅仅将视频格式转化一下就可以了,因为视频和字幕都是独立的文件,而声音有需要转换成双声道环绕声。虽然有一些工具可以将DVD视频转换成标准的MPEG-1视频或者其它视频格式,但操作过程都十分麻烦,不仅要转换视频格式,还要通过其它软件将字幕叠加到视频上,或者通过外挂字幕的方式实现字幕的显示(这在VCD机中播放的时候是不现实的),而声音又需要通过其它方式转换。总之,是一个既麻烦又费时的工作。
