Objective: To investigate the value of EEG sleep spindles in the prognosis of patients with vegetative state. Methods: We observed the sleep spindles in patients with vegetative state under long-term EEG monitoring, and analyzed their correlation with consciousness recovery, and predicted the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of patient consciousness recovery. Results: Among the 28 patients, 12 patients had spindles, of which 9 patients recovered consciousness. Of the 16 patients who did not have spindles, 14 patients did not recover consciousness. There was a correlation between spindle wave recovery and patient consciousness recovery, P <0.01. Sensitivity (83.25%), specificity (81.82%), and accuracy (82.14%) of EEG sleep spindles to patient consciousness recovery in vegetative state. Conclusion: EEG sleep spindles can accurately predict the state of consciousness recovery in patients with vegetative state, which can be used as an adjunct to clinically assess patients’ state of mind recovery.
