《状元图考》是一部描写明代历科状元科考经历的人物传记,与其他同类人物传记不同的是,它为每一位人物都配有一幅插图,且这些图像的艺术水准一直为版画研究者们所激赏。本文试图结合人们一直所忽视的文字传记内容与人们一直所津津乐道的版画图像内容分析出《图考》一书的记事原则,进而窥探催生这种原则的文化与艺术背景。本文在方法上以横向比较为主,文字内容上对比同时期科考人物传记的内容构成、记述重点,图像内容上将该书放置于及同时期人物版画之中,寻找其独特的构图原则、再现方法。
