[World Nuclear News Websites September 2, 2016] After six years of planning and preparation, Ontario Power Company (OPG) said it is “ready to implement” the refurbishment of the Darlington nuclear power plant, which is estimated to cost no more than C $ 12.8 billion (9 billion U.S. dollars) to start construction in October 2016. The plant has a total of 4 881 MWe Candu units, each with its first grid-connected power generation between 1990 and 1993, with existing permits to expire in about 2025. The power plant accounts for about 20% of Ontario’s total electricity generation. Ontario Power recently released the first half of 2016 performance report, describes the six-year plan and preparation of the Darlington nuclear power plant renovation project so far made progress.
