“民生新闻”是个新概念,目前对它的定义也是众说纷纭。湖南经济电视台台长吕焕斌对“民生新闻”所下定义为:“媒体站在人文关怀的立场,从最广大普通百姓的需求出发,用他们喜闻乐见的形式,播报、评说百姓关心的人和事,在反映百姓欲望、情感、意志的同时,积极为百姓排忧解难。”这是一个被大家普遍认同的定义。2002年1月1日,《南京零距离》在江苏电视台城市频道隆重推出,此后,在中国电视新闻圈中掀起了一股“民生潮”。
