自初唐起,时人对于碑志的认识发生了深化,从传统礼仪之用扩展至现实政治需要。伴随着社会的进一步发展,碑志创作空前活跃,在创作数量和规模上达到了兴盛,具体表现为创作群体的壮大、追求刚健大气、恢弘壮丽的美学风格及发挥圣门、润色鸿业的时代精神。初盛唐碑志文创作的兴盛,除文体自身演进变革的因素外,还和大一统政权下人们的文化观念和创作心理有关。初盛唐碑志创作的兴盛是唐代文人活动的重要现象,也是认识唐代文学与政治关系的重要基点。
