Objective:Toinvestigatetheincidence ofstrokeanditsinfluencefactorsamong Chinese patients with nonvalvularatrialfibrillation (AF)- Methods:Thisstudyincluded 520 consecutive nonvalvularAFpatients (male346,female174;inpatients318,outpatients202)from a single center- The mean ageofthese patients was 71-2±12-2 (range40 to102) years- The meanfollow up period was6-75 ±4-03 years with 100 % follow uprate- Results:Thestrokeincidence was5-3 % inallpatients,6-9% inpatients with highrisksand4-0% inpatientswithlow risks- Asriskfactors, hypertension anddiabeteshad apositivecorrelation withincidenceofAF stroke(p= 0-00001 and0-0101,respectively)-There wasnocorrelation between strokeand previousstroke, myocardialinfarction, heartfailureand hypertrophiccardiomyopathy (p= NS)- Conclusions:The strokeincidenceamongChinesenonvalvular AFissimilartothatofwesterncountries- Hypertensionand diabetesare highrisk factorsofstroke
Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics of Chinese patients with nonvalvularatrial fibrillation (AF) -Methods: This is to study 520 consecutive nonvalvular AFpatients (male346, female174; inpatients318, outpatients202) from a single center- The mean age of the patients was 71-2 ± 12-2 (range40 to102) years- The meanfollow up was was 6-75 ± 4-03 years with 100% follow up rate-Results: The stroke status was 5--3% in allpatients, 6-9% in patients with highrisks and 4--0% in patients with low risks- Asriskfactors, hypertension and diabeteshad apositivecorrelation withinidence of AF stroke (p = 0-00001 and 0-0101, respectively) -There wasnocorrelation between stroke and previousstroke, myocardial infarction, heartfailure and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (p = NS) - Conclusions: The strokeincidence of Chinese nonvalvular AFissimilartothatof western countries-Hypertension and diabetesare highrisk factors of stroke
