中国文字从图画期,发展到纯文字期,象形字减少,代之以抽象的点、线、笔画构成。抽象的字形,通过阶梯疏密,点画轻重、行笔缓急、抒发坐着的情思和心中意境。就像音乐艺术从自然音响里抽象出纯洁“乐音”用强弱、高低、节奏、旋律等有规则的律动来表现自然界社会生活的形象和内心情思一样。节奏是构成整篇章法形式美的重要因素之一。欣赏中的节奏感觉,来自于书法作品自身的节奏构成情况。作为视觉艺术的书法,主要是通过线条有规律的运动变化(快慢、强弱、轻重、缓急等形式的多次重复)表现出节奏来,故陈书法是“无声之音”。
