“走光”一词近来颇为流行，大致而言，较轻的“走光”应该是指不小心露出内衣，而较为严重的“走光”则指露出不该露的身体隐私部位。
目前该词的翻译尚未见于诸汉英词典，但网络上却热衷于讨论其英文表达。譬如，有人望文生义地译为“go（走）light（光）”，也有人意译为“accidental exposure of some intimate parts of human body”，更有人直截了当地译为“accidental nudity”。
以上三种译文，“go light”为死译，不值一论。“accidental exposure of some intimate parts of human body”倒确实有走光的意思，但却只是解释。而“accidental nudity”不但译文生硬，而且“nudity”词不达意，与“走光”其实大相径庭，因为“nudity”的英文意思为“the state of being without clothes（裸体）”。
那么，“走光”如何用英文来表达呢？答案是“wardrobe malfunction”。我们先来看看《麦克米伦英语词典》（Macmillan English Dictionary）对这个短语的定义：the accidental exposure of an intimate part of the body because of a problem with an article of clothing（由于衣服关系不小心暴露出部分身体隐私部位）。这与汉语的“走光”词义相近。然而英文中的“wardrobe malfunction”甚至比汉语中的“走光”更新，因为它是美国歌手贾斯汀·廷伯雷克（Justin Timberlake）在2004年第38届橄榄球超级碗大赛（Super Bowl）后生造的一个委婉表达。在这次大赛中，美国实力派天后珍妮·杰克逊（Janet Jackson）和人气偶像贾斯汀·廷伯雷克受邀表演节目，演唱进行到一半时，杰克逊紧身皮装的胸部部分突然破裂，场面一时颇为尴尬。赛后，贾斯汀·廷伯雷克就走光事件向公众致歉：“I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl.It was not intentional and is regrettable.”（PR Newswire,February 1,2004)

当然，汉语中的“走光”似乎可以作动词也可以作名词，而英语中与“wardrobe malfunction”构成的搭配则有have/suffer a wardrobe malfunction，a slight wardrobe malfunction，celebrity wardrobe malfunction，例如：

She suffered a slight,slight wardrobe malfunction when her hot pink bra peeked out from her top.
