Robert Frost is one of the most important poets in modern America. Although describing women’s poems is not the mainstream of Frost’s poetry, these poems reveal the mentality of women in marriage, family and life at that time, which shows the poet’s concern about the early 20th century women’s issues. Taking the three poems “Family Cemetery,” “Servant of the Servants,” and “Being a Family,” for example, women in early Frost’s early poems share a common behavioral trait - fleeing, marriage and family fleeing patriarchy life. They are the result of Frost’s personal growth and the subtle influence of the feminist movement at that time. Interpretation of these female images can better understand Frost’s views on women’s issues at that time as well as their contribution to the development of modern poetry.
