张仃在近代山水改革方面起到了重要的作用,尤其是在山水画写生方面,把中国山水画从陈旧的模式中解脱出来,他崇尚要到大自然中去领略真山真水,“知白守黑,见素抱朴”。他在研究中国民间绘画和西方绘画之后,彻底的从色彩回归到黑白,开启了影响中国现当代绘画进程的焦墨山水创作进程,将焦墨山水这种绘画语言提升到一个新的高度。
