Loaded and transported materials that have been excavated, which account for most of the total production costs of open-pit mines. Computer programs provided by equipment manufacturers and others are generally used to reduce excavator / truckwork costs. An easy-to-use program, called VEHSIM, which calculates the return cycle time of a truck haul and examines the system’s productivity and the effect of rolling resistance. Another program has recently been developed in Canada to facilitate the control of more complex truck / excavator operations by simulating any number of excavators or any type of periodic load machines and trucks with which they work. A program called PITSIM II also provides the best working solution to a hybrid fleet of trucks and excavators.
