The 157-bed new hotel, with its neighboring 1904 Marconi apartment, was designed to achieve an untouched butt joint. Wearing a Portland stone coat, the new hotel building occupies a triangular area and shines with this neighbor in both height and scale. The tip of the triangle is designed as an elliptical corner tower, which is both the end of the Aldwych Crescent road and the hotel’s main entrance sign. On the top of the corner tower is a glass dome, which is a contemporary reinterpretation of the Edwardian dome roof across the street;
