Felix Bitt was an important photographer in the history of early world photography and was hailed by Western commentators as the “father of military photography.” He landed in Tianjin with the British and French troops in August 1860 and carried out a series of military photographic activities in Beitang, Dagu and downtown Tianjin. However, the specific situation has been little known and has become a missing link in the history of Chinese photography. Based on the new historical data in recent years, this article has initially restored the bit of Tianjin photography activities, and also discussed the historical significance of the photos and how to recognize them.
