裘开明先生是中国图书馆界第一位走出国门,全职服务于美国图书馆事业,并功成名就的杰出人士,也是美国东亚图书馆早期发展中的一位启蒙大师和领袖人物。1931年,开明先生由于工作出色,被聘请为哈佛大学汉和图书馆首任馆长,这是美国第一位华人图书馆馆长,任职长达34年。在图书分类学、编目学、目录学、版本学等诸多方面,开明先生融中国的传统学术成就与西方的近现代学术精华于一体,开创了与中西图 Mr. Qiu Kai Ming is the first person in the library industry in China who has gone abroad to serve full time in the American library industry and has made a name for himself. He is also an enlightened master and leader in the early development of the US East Asia Library.
