汪應辰是朱熹的從表叔,朱熹早期思想的形成和仕途的進步離不開汪應辰的幫助。在學術上,朱熹與汪應辰有過多次的思想交鋒,汪應辰《文定集》中存有與朱熹書信十五通,二人通過書信往返,論學辯難,從儒釋之辨到蘇學的邪正之辨以及圍繞《西銘》展開的論戰,最終成就了朱熹的《雜學辨》,完成了他早期理學思想體系的初步建構。汪應辰是朱熹仕途的領路人,思想的交鋒者和人生中不可或缺的好友,朱熹對汪應辰充滿深深的敬意。
