Apple计算机公司的个人数字助手(PDA)Newton的全名是Message Pad(牛顿信息簿),它是Apple公司通信助手系列的第一个产品。Newton不仅具有一般笔输入手持计算机的功能,还有通讯和智能处理事务的能力。可以用它记笔记、画草图、写信、与PC通讯、收发传真以及与业务伙伴交换名片。Newton的外形尺寸只有19×9cm,可以把它十分方便地放在衣袋里。Newton的操作,与使用真的笔和纸很相似,它可以把写在屏幕上的手写体转换为印刷体。Newton有学习能力,经过一段时间的适应,字符识别率就可以达到比较高的水平。另外,在Newton的屏幕上可以显示一个模拟的键盘,用户也能用笔点键输入。Newton随机配有记事本、日程安排、日志和通讯录等应用软件,还可在其上安装其它第三方应用软件,是名符其实的个人数字助手。
