After several consecutive quarters of significant growth, the global mobile phone market will begin to cool down, based on the predictions of some analysts and some Motorola experts. The world’s second-largest maker of mobile phones said that its cellular phone sales will decline in the next two years, bringing not less shock to technology-savvy investors. Motorola made a conservative estimate of 5.25-575 million for global handset sales in 2001, down from the previous estimate of 650-600 million, which analysts think is a more realistic approach. PekkaTynkkunen from Finland said the market is still healthy and growing, but it is impossible to maintain a growth rate of up to 50%.
