Eight squirrels were exposed for 9 consecutive days to different sound levels (57.65.72.80.86 and 92 decibels) with octave band noise (center level at 4.0 kHz). 6 hours daily noise exposure and 18 hours quiet period of the test. The authors observed that: 1. The animals achieved a 90-100% correct hearing response through a seven-stage listening threshold training. Excessive training is totally unnecessary. 2. The maximum squirrel hearing loss frequency is 5.7 kHz; that is, half the octave above the noise center level of 4.0 kHz is exposed. The second loss frequency is 8.0, 2.0 and 0.5 kHz. 3. The maximum squirrel threshold shift during one day occurs 4 minutes after noise exposure; and often this is the largest
