在英国海洋研究所化学研究室有一个面积约为14—15平米的实验室,这便是国际海洋界熟知的标准海水服务处(Sfandard Scawater Service)。在访问英国海洋研究所之前,我们总以为这个向世界各国海洋研究机构提供标准海水的单位一定有一个堂而皇之的实验室,在其中工作的起码要有几位专家,并配置以精良的现代化设备。当我们置身于这个使用面积狭小,仪器设备精密而不现代化(象天秤、砝码、滴定管等),工作人员只有3—4位的这样一个实验室时,我不免感到惊讶,惊讶之余一种敬佩之情油然而生。正如一句英国谚语所说的那样:Seeing is believing(百闻不如一见)。
At the British Institute of Marine Chemistry Laboratory has an area of about 14-15 square meters of laboratory, which is well-known in the international marine community Standard Sea Service (Sfandard Scawater Service). Before visiting the British Institute of Marine Science, we always thought that this unit, which provides standard seawater to oceanographic institutions in various countries in the world, must have a magnificent laboratory with at least a few experts working in it and equipped with sophisticated modern equipment. I was amazed and surprised when we were in a laboratory with a small size and very modern equipment (scales, weights, burettes, etc.) and only 3-4 staff. Admiration arises spontaneously. As one English proverb puts it: Seeing is believing.
