The Museum of Contemporary Art features a group exhibition of five Japanese architects in the name of “Japanese stars: Tohto Ito, SANNA and later”. The other architects are SANAA, SANAA, and Ishizuka and Akira Hirata. They all worked at Toyomasou, Tohoku, and then set up an independent office. The exhibition begins with the Sendai Media Center, a famed masterpiece built in 2001 by Toyo Ito. The building, supported by five cylindrical structures, transforms the structure of a bulky entity into a soft and transparent one, instead allowing the building to be light and soft (soft building). This is the new collective image that Japanese architects have emerged since 2000: a space that is transparent, mobile and not functionally defined. The exhibition features a white model with floor plan and profile
