1关于日本的“义理”说美国人类学者路丝·本尼迪克在《菊与刀》中提出义理是解读日本文化不可或缺的关键词,认为义理是日本独有的社会规范和伦理,把义理分为“对社会的义理”和“对名誉的义理”两类,并指出义理是囿于外界社会的约束而不得不遵守的行为规范,处于当事人内心的真实情感——“人情”的对立面。源了圆(1969年)肯定了本尼迪克特在义理研究方面的功绩,但指出其弊端在于以近世封建社会或日本社会构造的一层不变为前提,认为这在构筑义理的统一理论方面缺乏说服
