影响医药院校图书馆建设基础的一个极其重要的方面,是长期保存本的设立与管理。 图书馆的基本功能之一,就是保存社会所积累的图书财富,设立样本或样本书库为发挥这一职能提供了保障。对样本,有的馆将它们统一装潢或在书上作统一标志存放于基本书库,有的馆将它们单独存放,限制很严,一般不外借,要求集中阅览,便于监管,防止丢失。这种管理方法,保证了图书馆的藏书种数,为读者提供了查全资料的机会,但它也有不足之处,特别是当前图书馆购书经费严重不足,矛盾就更显得突出。如果再设样本或样本书库,不说外借,就是馆内有无阅览之书都很难说。设立样本或样本书库,还会对图书馆开发智力资源,进行社会教育的职能带来不利影响。
