The 1980s turned a turning point in Spanish history: in 1986 it signed a treaty on the formal participation of the European Community. Spain joins the community - this is not just a further development of the already established relationship between Spain and the Community. This is also due to the need for a fundamental internal reform of the Spanish economy and the rebuilding of its foreign economic relations with the EC and abroad.
