It has been made clear in recent years that smoking is associated with an excessive morbidity and mortality of various diseases. Quantitatively, the overwhelming majority of deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease. About three-fourths of them are coronary artery disease (coronary heart disease). British experiments have yielded the same results in the United States. It has been shown in both countries that stopping smoking will reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. The initial decline was relatively rapid, then continued to decrease slowly, approaching the level of non-smokers for more than 10 years. However, the majority of over-smoker smokers over 20 years old are still at a slightly increased risk of death.
