Objective To investigate the changes of sex hormones in patients with psychosis. METHODS: The authors performed serum testosterone (T) and estradiol (E2) levels in 31 cases of schizophrenia and 9 cases of affective disorders. Results Compared with the control group, the basal T concentration in female patients with emotional disorders was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.01). The female patients before treatment had a significantly higher E2 than after treatment (P<0.01). Compared with other groups, there is no difference. Conclusion The early sexual hormone secretion in patients with mental illness is still stable. Antipsychotics can cause varying degrees of sex hormones.
