The process of Indian-Caucasian cultural contact during the North American colonial era has had a profound impact on the history of the region and has always been the focus of early American historians. Since the 1960s, influenced by the civil rights movement and the new cultural historiography, North American scholars have come up with some new features in the study of the history of Indian and white cultural contacts. The process of printing and white cultural contact is increasingly seen as a cultural adaptation between Native American culture and Caucasian culture. Historians have paid more attention to the cognition and feelings of ordinary white people from Indian invaders and colonies in the past. The study of the specificities of the contact history of Indian and white cultures by foreign scholars mainly focuses on the political, military and economic aspects. This dissertation, based on a review of the main points and related treatises by North American scholars, aims to present a more comprehensive picture of North American scholars’ research on the relationship between Indians and whites in modern times.
