10月30日至11月1日中国科协在京召开了2000年地方科协科普工作座谈会。来自全国各省、自治区、直辖市和计划单列市科协的党组书记、主席、副主席、普及部长以及中国科协普及口各事业单位的负责人出席了会议。中国科协党组书记、书记处第一书记张玉台到会作了重要讲话(摘要另发),中国科协书记处书记徐善衍在开幕式上作了重要讲话(第二部分摘要另发),书记处书记宋南平在闭幕式上作了总结讲话。张玉台在会议上指出,书记处在讨论这次会议时特别提出,这次地方科协科普工作座谈会起点要高,站得要高,要站在贯彻落实党的十五届五中全会精神,党的十五大精神和贯彻落实江泽民总书记关于“三个代表”的重要思想,以及以江泽民同志为核心的党中央关于科普工作的一系列重要指示精神的高度,来看待这次地方科协科普工作座谈会。地方科协科普工作座谈会不只是谈一个方面,不只是谈一个局部,而是整个科协的科普工作。张玉台就新时期科协科普工作谈了几点意见:一是科普工作面临从未有过的大好形势和历史机遇,要进一步提高
