On August 24, 1921, Gumilyov, chairman of the Petrograd Poets Association, was executed for counter-revolutionary crimes. He left no last words and did not even leave behind the remains and graves, so an influential poet in Russian poetry disappeared mysteriously. The Soviet literary community reevaluated him and set off a notorious “Gumilyov hot.”
