香港是商品经济高度发达的资本主义社会,价值规律和供求规律自发地起着调节作用,市场竞争十分激烈。香港经济发展的特点,直接影响着市场物价的变动和员工工资水平的提高,使物价与工资之间存在着十分紧密的关系。在香港,虽然政府没有法定的工资与物价挂钩的关系,但从香港编制的几种物价指数所确定的一些用途来看,其中之一就是作为各工商企业调整员工工资的参考,即根据物价指数的变动来调整生活津贴,以保障工资的实际购买力。这就说明,物价的上涨是香港员工工资
