著名电影家、戏剧家洪深,从小就显露出对文学和戏剧的兴趣,上了大学以后便开始参加校内的戏剧活动。但是,面对内忧外患的祖国,他没有选择戏剧,在“实业救国”思想的影响下,他选择了攻读陶瓷工程。1916年,他以优异的成绩被清华大学选送美国公费留学。五四运动以后,远在异国他乡的洪深从“实业救国”的梦幻中清醒过来,于1919年转入哈佛大学,攻读戏剧文学。当时,他以其创作的多幕剧《为之夺宝》和独幕剧《回去》,从三百多名应试者中脱颖而出,成为全美最著名的倍克教授的十一名嫡传弟子之一。他是我国第一个远涉重洋去学习西洋戏剧的人。为了维持生计,
Hong Shen, a famous filmmaker and dramatist, showed his interest in literature and theater since he was a child. After attending the university, he started to participate in drama activities in the school. However, facing the internal and external problems in the motherland, he did not choose drama. Under the influence of “saving the nation by industry,” he chose to study ceramics. In 1916, he was selected by the Tsinghua University with outstanding academic performance of the United States to study abroad. After the May 4th Movement, Hong Shen, far away from a foreign country, awakened from the dream of “saving the country by industry” and moved to Harvard University in 1919 to study drama literature. At that time, he became one of the eleven pass-off disciples of the country’s most famous Professor Baker, with his multi-screen drama “The War of Return” and the one-act play “Go Back”, which stood out from more than 300 candidates. He is the first person in our country to study western drama far and wide. In order to earn a living,
