鉴于我们的时代需要,我们将讨论的范畴设置在今天的中国现代山水,之所以强调现代山水,是因为我们面临着一个不可否认的文化窘境:当我们试图抛弃传统山水空间概念,希望借助于西方绘画的空间理论来构筑中国现代山水画空间的时候,社会环境、人文认识、材料和技法等诸多方面的不同造成了我们的理论和实践难以达到完美的统一,以至于山水画空间的营造实践显得过于生硬或者怪异,从而令中国观众不能接受,甚至产生抵触,更别说要做到古人说的“可以观、可以游、可以居”的境界
