Western art from the ancient Greek era to today, after thousands of years of long history, all kinds of cultural phenomenon has been inexhaustible. Since the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Western art works have shown a trend toward the fair use of “ugly” themes: the aesthetic trend started to turn from aesthetic to ugly. Ugly, a pattern that has always been cast aside, hidden, repressed and alienated by people, has finally emerged and become independent, and even seems to have a tendency to surpass the status of the United States. Through the combing of works of art in different periods and different cultural atmosphere, this article finds that “ugly” has been excluded, attached to the United States, developed into the hand in hand with the United States to develop together, and then gradually rise independent of the United States A long, complicated and arduous evolutionary process.
