夏威夷群岛是由124个小岛和8个大岛组成的新月形岛链,弯弯地镶嵌在太平洋中部水域。它的陆地面积为16641平方公里,面积最大的是夏威夷岛,由5座火山组成,其中基拉维厄火山为世界活火山之最。冒纳罗亚火山每隔若干年喷发一次,炽烈的熔岩从山隙中缓缓流出,成为夏威夷的一大奇观。瓦有岛是第三大岛,也是夏威夷政治、文化中心——首府檀香山所在地。全州110万人的80%居住在该岛上。夏威夷的闻名之地有:檀香山、威尔基海滩和珍珠港。在世界地图上,夏威夷群岛被公认为旅游胜地不败的经典,是休闲度假的绝好去处。
The Hawaiian Islands is a crescent-shaped chain of 124 islets and eight large islands that are curved in the waters of the central Pacific Ocean. Its land area of 16,641 square kilometers, the largest area is the island of Hawaii, consists of 5 volcanoes, of which the Kilauea Volcano is the world’s most active volcano. Mauna Loa volcano eruption every several years, blazing lava slowly out of the gap, Hawaii has become a spectacle. Wa’uu Island is the third largest island and Hawaii’s political and cultural center - the seat of Honolulu capital. Eighty per cent of the state’s 1.1 million people live on the island.
