丹江口枢纽河床混凝土坝的基础是分二期开挖的,第一期是右岸1—18块,总的开挖面积为3万平方公尺,共开挖石方9(?),600公方。58年11月开挖砂卵石,12月开挖石方,在开挖过程中碰到不不少的困难:有宽达30公尺岩性较弱的破碎带的交汇区;也有坚硬的强度达2,000公斤/平方公分的大块火成岩。这样在不同的岩石性质和不同的工作条件下依靠党的领导和群众的智慧,按照设计要求,克服困难出色地完成了任务。我们的开挖标准:“岩石新鲜完整,形状平缓”
