Experts at the Agricultural Research Center at the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that the use of sugar and starch blends can significantly extend the duration of action of certain biopesticides and thereby make them more effective. This means that for some crop pests now, there is a better adhesion, a longer duration of action, and a non-compound solution. Entomologist Michael RMoGuire and chemist Baruchs Shasha found in a simulated rainfall experiment in a greenhouse that pesticides were sprayed on with sugar and starch film and adhered to the leaves for more than 19 days, whereas conventional spray methods only 2-4 days. The researchers also found that when using the biopesticide Bt to control the European corn borer, the new method allowed the Bt to remain hyperactive for more than one test period (8 days) with an insecticidal rate above 90%, whereas conventional methods kill insects Only 20%. According to MoGuire, this finding shows that we can overcome the previous exposure to sunlight and rain while Bt was applied in the field
