新华县第五中学创建于1784年,其前身文昌课社为科举时代课士之所。办学历史可溯至明嘉靖年间,太仆寺少卿邹廷望解组归里,于宅南创办三乡社学,邑中子弟咸从之游,自此人才辈出,登贤书者络绎不绝。 清乾隆壬午(1762年),邹世溢、袁载常、陈律言诸前辈首倡创办文昌课社,乐而从者66人,岁时会文讲学。首任主事乃后安徽宿松知县邹冠英。延至乾隆甲辰(公元1784年)秋。乡先辈邹洁廷与彭西川、邹景奎为求一劳永逸之所,遂倡建阁于此龙潭湾山岗。历时3载,于乾隆丙午(1786年)秋告成。阁巅祀文昌帝君,以宰斯文,故俗称“文昌
