关于第四维的概念经常被认为是很神秘、很值得怀疑的。我们这些只有高度、宽度和厚度的生物,怎么竟敢奢谈什么四维空间呢?从我们三维的头脑里能想象出四维的情景吗? 的确,我们想象不了出现在三维空间背景上的四维物体是什么样子,正如同我们不可能将一个三维物体压进一个平面那样。当然,我们确实可以在二维的平面上画出三维物体来,因而在某种意义上来说,是将一个三维物体压进了平面,然而,这种压法,是用几何投影的
The concept of the fourth dimension is often considered mysterious and doubtful. We have only creatures with height, width, and thickness. How can we dare to talk about what four-dimensional space is? Can we imagine a four-dimensional scene from our three-dimensional mind? Indeed, we cannot imagine four-dimensional objects appearing on a three-dimensional space background. It looks just like we can’t push a three-dimensional object into a plane. Of course, we can indeed draw three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional plane. In a sense, we push a three-dimensional object into the plane. However, this method of pressure is projected by geometrical projections.
