In the 20th century, Western oil paintings entered an era of unprecedented prosperity, various art schools flourished. The language of painting has also shown a tendency of contending. In getting out of the early nineteenth century, the painting focused on objective things and instead entered a new era that focused on emotional expression and interpretation. Compared with the mainstream culture in continental Europe, the British culture is a little marginalized. It is precisely under such circumstances that Britain’s art has distinctive characteristics. Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon, British eminent artists, made their fame in the 20th century world art scene. As a representative of the 20th century British art scene, if Bacon pioneered the British modernist painting movement, then Freud’s artistic achievement culminated in this painting movement.
