When visiting mental health in the United States in September 1985, I learned that the New York State Government has a Mental Health Department and is responsible for the mental health of the state. Its main functions are: reviewing statewide mental health work plans; and university and research Institutions work closely together to train mental health professionals; provide funding for experimental research projects; supervise the implementation of mental health work in districts and communities; and coordinate the development of mental health throughout the state.
