在“人民教育”上开展关于“全面發展、因材施教”問題的討論,我認为不仅是必要的、也是适时的。“全面發展、因材施教”是一个完整的方針,它是依据我們当前教育和教学上存在的一些問題和产生的一些偏差提出来的。它的提出,并不是改变了原有的“全面發展”的方針,而是使这方針更加明确,更加有效地指导我們的实际工作。过去,我們在貫徹全面發展教育方針上,虽取得了一定的成績,但也产生了一些偏差。例如有很多同志把”全面發展”簡單地理解为“平均發展”,在执行上就处处强求一律,抹煞了学生的个性、特長,結果造成了学生的負担过重,使学生經常处于紧張的和被动的狀态,不能很好地进行独立思考和独立工作。

For example, many comrades simply interpret “all-round development” as “average development.” They consistently enforce their laws in practice and deny their individuality and specialty. As a result, they have overburdened their students and kept students in constant tension And the passive state, not well independent thinking and independent work.
