Objective To evaluate the screening effect of radioactive hazard on single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) / computed tomography (CT) in a hospital nuclear medicine department. Methods Taking the SPECT / CT construction project of nuclear medicine department of a hospital as evaluation object, the on-site investigation of radiation hygiene and radiation monitoring methods were used to evaluate the effect of radioactive hazard control. Results The dose equivalent ratio around the γ-ray of the shield of the SPECT / CT room was 0.21-0.32μSv / h and the dose equivalent ratio around the X-ray was 0.20-0.23μSv / h. The annual effective doses of SPECT injection were 0.02, 5.54 and 0.03 m Sv for the whole body, hand and lens of the eye, respectively. The effective dose of SPECT positioning and scanning and the staff’s systemic year were 0.63 m Sv, which were much lower than GB 18871-2002 Occupational exposure limits specified in the Basic Standard for Protection against Ionizing Radiation and Radiation Safety. Conclusion The radiation protection shielding effect of the construction project is good, which can ensure the health and safety of radiation workers and the public around it.
