John Robert Dew is the Vice President of the Troy University in Alabama, USA, and holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Tennessee. He is currently a member of the American Society of Quality and an Fellow of the International Academy for Quality Sciences. He was former ASQ Education and Training Chairman of the Committee, ASQ Energy and Environment and Head of Education. In addition, he has also served as the judges of the American Baldrige National Quality Award. This article introduces seven effective ways of reflective learning: group discussion, metaphor analysis, discussion of important events, discussion of case studies, art practice, force field analysis and root cause analysis all around structured problems. Through reflective learning, quality managers can help staff within an organization establish a sense of quality and guide employees through critical reflection to understand quality characteristics.
