【Objective】 With the global warming, the occurrence frequency of summer extreme short-term extreme high temperature gradually increases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the adaptability of Athetis lepigone larvae to high temperature. 【Method】 The larvae of different stages (1, 6, 12 and 18 days old) were exposed to different temperatures (35, 38 and 41 ℃) h) and then transferred to suitable temperature (26 ℃) to continue feeding. The effects of short-term high temperature on its survival rate, developmental period, pupation rate, emergence rate, females’ longevity, . 【Result】 The results showed that the temperature and time of short-term high temperature exposure in larval stage had significant effects on the survival rate and developmental duration of the larvae of Spodoptera exigua. However, the effects of pupation rate, emergence rate of adult, fecundity of females, And the second generation hatching rate had no significant effect. With the increase of temperature and treatment time, the survival rate of larvae gradually decreased, and the developmental period gradually extended. Among them, the 18-day-old larvae were the most sensitive and the survival rates were 58.3% and 17.7% after exposure to 38 ℃ and 41 ℃ for 6 h, respectively, which were significantly lower than that of the control. The developmental duration was 25.5 and 29.2 days, respectively, significantly longer than that of the control. 【Conclusion】 The larvae exposed to short-term high temperature only affected the survival and developmental duration of larvae, but had no effect on the growth and development of adult pupae and adult fertility.
