The European Commission confirmed on April 28, 2016 that it plans to establish a European Union nano-database with the main purpose of providing clear and easily understandable nano-related information, including the risks associated with nano-materials. Nanometer databases will collect information on nanomaterials from existing sources, which is better than providing operators with new information. In addition, setting up a nano-database is also better than setting up a register because it is generally accepted in the industry that registration procedures will aggravate the administrative burden and will not help to improve risk assessment and management. There is also very little way for consumers to view the registration information. It is expected that the European Chemicals Agency will launch a nano-database between 2016 and 2019 and formulate a budget.
