The alteration of the TGF-β signaling pathway caused by decreased expression of Smad2, especially Smad4 was initially observed in pancreatic and colorectal cancers, but deletion of chromosome 18q21.1 containing these two loci is the most common molecular change in cervical cancer. This study aimed to investigate whether the decrease of Samd2 and Smad4 protein expression in primary cervical cancer is related to the alteration of 18q21.1 molecule and the mutation or hyperfunction of Samd2 and Smad4 domains.
