Czochralski growth of YAlO_3 crystals requires that the material consisted of Y_2O_3 and Al_2O_3 should have a good homogeneity of the melt and less impurities. Because Y_2O_3 contains a considerable amount of carbon impurities, it reacts with Al_2O_3 to form a yellow aluminum carbide Al_4C_3 impurity under high temperature and anoxia. The Y_2O_3 decomposes to gaseous aluminum and solid carbon during the growth, resulting in bubble and light dispersion (<1μm) particles in the crystal
